So my year collecting parts has finally paid off. I decided to with the Landcruiser coils in the rear and ball joint spacers in the front.

Installation was made "easy" with the help of Kevywevy. Could have been easier if we avoided a few newbie mistakes. For people who are thinking about doing it you WILL need new wheels. I had the stock SR5 alloys and had rubbing, I did have 32x11.5 if it makes a difference. Also make sure you have an extra cut-off wheel for your grinder. I ended up going through 1 and a half of those.

Oh yeah those are 33x12.5 MT/R's. No rubbing issues, except maybe at full stuff. But come on how often do you do that!?

 

I'm confused. Why do you need new wheels? Didn't you just do a lift? Anyway, looks sick. I'm hoping to do the same some time soon.

Did you take it up for a run right after lifting or was all that mud from before the lift?

you might need new wheels if you have stock steels like me, or in Geoff's case, maybe if you have 11.5" wide tires. how are your shocks in the front?

 

Kevywevy is right. With the balljoint spacers you most likely will need wheels with more backspacing, I went with 3 3/4. I've got better pics of the rubbing and of my tires that I will try to post today.

I took the truck out after I mounted the tires. At the place where we installed the lift there are a couple little trails used for quads. I took it through a nice muddy trail and then through a pond. Kevywevy and I both put a Jeep Wrangler in its place He couldn't make it through the mud and had to be winched out twice. But Kevin and I made it through every time, I even took the hardest route.

It's all clean now. I like to show some of those guys in that neighborhood what their trucks were suppossed to do

 

Shocks in the front are ok. Doesn't ride quite as smooth as yours though. My front is lower than the back, how did yours end up? Maybe my torsion bars could go up a bit?

Also when I jack my front end up the passenger side tire stays on the ground much longer than the driver side. It seems to be quite a bit off.

 

HAH! you think my ride was smooth before, you should come ride in it now that the shocks aren't hyper extended!!!!

 

So whats the secret??? Why does yours ride so smooth?? My front seems so stiff New shocks will help, but yours was smooth even with your old ones.

hahahaha oh man i had my tires rubbing tonight with 31's!!!!

 

I'm sure mine will rub too. It stuffed the 32's nice and snug, haven't tried it with the 33's yet. I'll probably need 1" body lift the get full flex now.

 

So what did you do for lift? Balljoint spacers in the front and Fj-80 coils in the rear, thats all?

 

Instead of getting new wheels couldnt you just get wheel spacers?

yes, just ball joint spacers in the front and FJ80 coils in the back. i got all new shocks front and back, but some people just space the front shocks down.

yes, you can just buy wheel spacers, but the way i saw it, is that i could buy wheel spacers or new wider wheels for the same price. and once i get 33's i would need wider wheels any ways.

 

So what length shocks did you end up going with Kevin?

How much and where did you get them? Also how was it installing them? I had a friend look at my truck and it looks like all I really need is a CV axle whick I can get for around $60 and maybe an idler arm but it's not necessary So that'll save me a lot of money
