wow this thread fell apart fast...

i know pics never look as crazy as the "trail" is but your 4runner should not have had ANY problems with that. and yes i would put money on the fact you could do it in 2wd.... open. there wasnt any thing that was flexy or any ledges you need to climb up that would require 4wd.

I agree, I have never seen one of those in person but I remember when they built them and promoted them, what a joke.

Also, what's with all the drooling over super "advanced" 4x4 systems? Normal part time manula shifting 4WD with manual hubs is the best system for 99.9% of everyone IMO. Having button activated shifting and "full-time" 4WD is pretty dumb. Locking a center diff just puts you on par with a part time 4x4 in 4WD-hi anyways. When it's unlocked you are sending power to the wheel with the lest traction (unless you have a fancy traction controll computer driving your truck) and it makes handling and tire wear somewhat uneaven and unpredictable. Not to mention more to break hence harder and more money to fix.

All I need is lockers and my 4Runners 4WD system will be about as good as it gets. No need for stability controll, traction controll and a million ways to drive it.

Lastly, what's with the talk of how fast you can go in 4WD? I doubt anyone here is racing in a stock or nearly stock Toyota, if you can maintain high speeds, like, above 45 you probably don't need to be in four wheel drive for 2 good reasons.

i use 2hi, 2lo, and 4lo... i hardly ever use 4hi. if i need 4 wheels getting power, i need to be going slow enough for low range. i usually dont lock my hubs until i need them, 2lo is an amazing thing.

my jeep did one of those courses. a buddy of mine works there, and his early eighties range rover made it through also, but it was a much less 'refined' pass.
