Hello, I am about to replace a knock sensor on our 94 3.0, and the timing belt on my 93 3.0. Is the knock sensor a straight remove old one, replace with new one deal (I know it sounds simple, and I know how much work it's gonna be)? I'd like to talk to the guy who had the bright idea of putting the sensor under the intake manifold

Also, any words of advice/encouragement on the timing belt? I've heard stories of it being off a tooth after one revolution. Thanks alot!! Looks like I'm gonna have a fun weekend!!

 

As far as the Knock Sensor goes, check the $11 wire that runs from the sensor to the throttle body before putting in a new $220 sensor. I have a 92 pickup v6, and all I had to do was put in a new wire. It gets worn down really easily, and usually is all that needs to be replaced. Wire = $11 Intake Gaskets = $100. NICE!

Good advice from the fool. If you do replace the sensor, replace the wire, too & be prepared to put some muscle into getting the old sensor loose. Do both projects at the same time to save you some trouble. Make sure you don't move the t-belt when you reinstall the upper idler pulley.

 

Thanks for all the info! I've already practiced doing the T-belt and sensor on an old 3.0 we have lying around in the shop, so I'd have a better idea of what to expect. You're right, that sensor was TIGHT!! Unfortunately, the T-belt and knock sensor projects are on two completely different trucks, so I basically have to tear down the motor twice. Oh well, at least I'll learn something. Thanks for the help!
