Does anyone know if a key with integrated keyless entry would work with a 2001 4runner? I'm thinking a key like the 2010 corolla (and many other toyotas) have. My old car had one and I'm missing it now that I have a two-piece key and keyless. If it meant losing the ability to open the back window that would be fine with me, I just use the key in the key hole to do that. Thanks!

There is a kit that shows up on ebay.uk for a lock/alarm button set that can be programed to work with any alarm (they claim) it comes with key blanks that bolt into the button part so you can get them cut to match your ign. key.
They have sets for 1-2-3 gens. Price was quite reasonable... I last saw them about a year ago but have'nt looked since... if you look for them try a search under Hilux Surf and the model yr you are interested in... you'll have to do a lot of scrolling through all the listing s to find it...

I've seen those before but would prefer to go OEM if possible. I question the quality of those keys... If anyone could chime in that has one that would be helpful, maybe they're fine?

It seems like they're about $55, which I'd be willing to pay if it were of decent quality. The problem is I have no idea if this thing is a piece of junk or not. Since no one else is reponding I'm guessing no one has one??

 

I doubt it - I don't think they use the same alarm/keyless system so I can't imagine those keys would sync up to the older systems.

You're just wanting to be able to have one key for everything instead of a mechanical key and a keyless remote?

Might look into an older Lexus, they had all-in-one remotes before the Toyota models did and may have used the older alarm/keyless systems before the lower-end/Toyota models.

I think the Lexus keys are gonn be your best bet - aftermarket stuff like that is usually pretty crappy.

I very clearly remember my mother having a 3rd Gen 4Runner back in the day and she had a single key that had a lock, unlock, and panic built in. Could this not work? I think it was a '97

Edit: I got to thinking I had it packed up in a box from when we moved and somehow I managed to find it first try. Here's some pics. I think it was a Dealership thing when they had the SecuriKey+ systems on the 4Runners. Key is called a SECURIKEY+ and the lettering on the back reads FCC ID-ELVAT6B. I dunno if it will work.

 

That switchblade key is not the one I saw on the uk site...
it was a kit to make a key like the one in the previous posting.
This kind of key would work with the older alarm systems.

 

FCC ID-ELVAT6B. This has to match for the remote to work. Im an automotive locksmith and deal with transponder keys and keyless entry remotes all day long. The easiest way to have this would be to just attach the key to the remote via creative use of jb weld or epoxy( i have actually done similar things and been pleased with the results so im not being a smartass). Unless there is someone that is offering something similar to the securikey posted above, you might want to check keylessride.com. Ill check my inventory for a land rover or lexus key with a similar fcc id though just to be shure.

 

Thanks for the reponses, I'll check for a securikey online. For the record my FCC ID is HYQ1512Y. Is there any compatability between FCC IDs or does it have to match perfectly?

 

Looks like I could find the key on ebay, but the FCC doesn't match so I'm guessing I would need a different brain for the alarm system too. Probably not worth it at that point. The guy wants $120 for the key alone.

I would love a single key fob as well. Ive got a 2001 4runner. Did you find a solution?

 

That SECURIKEY looks like it's from a Land Cruiser - or maybe it just resembles it.

Any of those keys are going to expensive - they keyless remotes are expensive just by themselves not to mention having a key and chip embedded in it.

I don't think that there is a remote head key offered by anyone. I'm going to take a key and attech it to the back of a remote with some jb weld and see how it looks. That's prob the easiest solution. And if your truck/4runner has transponder keys it would be very easy to take the chip out of one of your keys and imbed it in the jbweld/epoxy... and the remotes aren't too expensive

 

Honestly I've probably given up on this one. The reason I care is because I have an office job and carry my keys around, I'll probably just leave them on my desk instead. When I did this with a previous car they had introduced a key+keyless on the next model year of the car so it wasn't as big a deal. I think the options end up being epoxying the key to the fob or ditching the stock system and installing something like aviator suggests above. I was hoping for +/- $50 so I'm giving up.
