just got an oil change from jiffy lube for the first time in my life. on the report it said oil was 1 qt low, and i did it at the 3000 mile mark. is this normal for a 108k mile vehicle?

 

Yup, I wouldnt Worry. I always buy 6 quarts, the engine takes 5.5 and at the 2000 mile mark, add the other .5 quarts.

Jiffy Screw sucks....enough said. This one I used to goto always said I was 2 quarts low, and my tansfer case tail shaft was leaking. Bull˟˟˟˟

Over the 10k miles I go on my 190k mile engine with Amsoil, I don't lose a drop!

 

That happens to me all the time @ Jiffy.....the thing is they check the oil right after you drive up, so what happens? About a quart of oil is still in the engine because they haven't given it a chance to drain back into the crank-case. If they would wait like 10 minutes, it would read fine.

 

Even the best engine will use oil. If you think you don't use a drop of oil have some analyzed at a lab and see how much is water or fuel. Oil has to lubricate places where it cannot be recovered from, hence, it is used. Unless it drips on the pavement or smokes out the tail pipe, no worries man.

Stop using Jiffy lube, do it yourself. Save your vehicle from their clutches. They will screw something up eventually.

well i dont go to jiffy lube or any quickie place like that, but my parking lot specifically states in the lease that i cant perform auto work on the property.

It's weird considering I've done my own brakes and put in and reassembled my 3rd member twice (with help), but alas, I've yet to change my own oil. However, I go to a place called Oilstop. They're not a huge chain like JiffyLube, and they're real friendly. They give you a run-down of everything they do to the truck.
Only thing I've caught them on is trying to tell me the my differential fluid is dirty, 3 days after I changed it myself.

 

Guy I work with goes to those jiffy places with his wifes 99 taco. He had a U-joint failure and found NO GREASE in any of the joints. Even though they had it done every 3K miles

 

It is real easy for the MORON's who work there to check off that piece of paper that they fill out - whether they actually look at anything is anybody's guess ! The Jiffy Lubes around here hire anybody that will work for minimum wage or the WalMart rejects - just my 2 cents worth.
Do it yourself gets my vote !

 

they probably meant that the left it 1 quart low only filling it with 4.5 quarts. cause they're idiots. that was probably in the "service person description" area, because those guys are running about a quart low at all times.

 

I took mine to jiffylube last time because it was during finals and I didn't have time to change it myself and i was over-due. They didn't seem like the brightest bulbs in the box but I sat there and watched every move they made. They were pretty nice and didn't mind me watching over their shoulder. Mine is brand new though... My step mom did have an incident once where they forgot to put the cap back on her trooper and oil was EVERYWHERE, except she got it done at the valvaleen (spell?) in asheville...

 

well, i usually get it done at the dealer, but yesterday they wanted a 2 hour wait for an oil change, whatever happened to the "30 minute guarantee". and last time i got an oil change at the dealer, they called me back after 15 min. and told me i have to drop my runner off because they forgot to clean the skid plate area and oil is everywhere. at least with jiffy lube i got to watch exactly what they were doing, at the dealer i can only imagine.

 

Just get to know your local lube place and watch them do the change if you don't like doing it. I've used those places on my daily drivers for over 12 years and had one minor problem where they made a mess down the side of the engine and they gave me 410 off my next change.

 

valvoline... and my buddy got his done there once and they did the same exact thing.
