I'm tempted to get the the Hilux Surf badges just so when people see my '03 and say, what is it, I can point to the logo's and screw up the dealer. Can't you see a bunch of people running into the local US Toyota dealer asking to see a Hilux Surf ? LOL !!

Yea, they would probably feel like my poor Toyota dealer. I ragged on them pretty hard about not being able to get me the hitch receiver available on the 4Runners .

I did get my rear deck weather proof mat today from them. Fits perfect but only if the second deck is folded down. It has about a two inch lip all the way around and a big "Surf" logo in the middle.

Just beautiful Woody. I'm happy you dig the Runner. It's waay nicer with the painted flares/cladding. Nice color too. I'll keep checking for an aftermarket hitch for ya. Enjoy that new car smell.

Tanks Brah. The manager at my Toyota dealer is headed to Hawaii next week to go to a wedding and guess what he's looking for? Plus a 4Runner accessory pamphlet from Toyota.

Thanks for looking for the hitch. It was 72 degrees today and my 1100cc Jet Ski don't like being a ramp queen!!

Aloha

This truck is a true JOY to drive! The X-REAS suspension and rack and pinion steering make it handle curves and corners unbelievably well.

Oh yea, you may want to reconsider that fender mirror. Much to my dismay, birds must like to perch on it, because one took a big dump while sitting on it while I was at work today.

I was also considering HID lights as my first mod but the halogen stock ones are really white and bright.

Anyway, so far and as expected this is an exceptional vehicle. I would recommend one to anyone.

I'll ask. But I think the problem you would have if it can be ordered would be matching the colors. I believe the US and Japanese models have different colors.
Any updates with the mirror? I really don't mind painting it myself!

Cool truck! What kind of engine does it have? I think you should return it though... it looks like they accidently put the steering wheel on the wrong side of the truck!

ND- It has a 3.4L V6 and it really runs sweet.

MM76- Next time I go to the dealer, maybe this weekend, I'll ask if the mirror can be ordered. Any particular color, if available?

I don't think the mirror is going to be of use... It was stated that the new '03 Surf has two mirrors in the unit (correct ?) If it's the Japanese item, it's going to be set up from right side drive vehic.

Correct me please if I am wrong, because I think the mirror is a neat idea.

JGage,

A very astute observation. It is definately a left fender mirror viewed from a right side driver position that has two mirrors. The right split mirror reflects the front left bumper corner starting at the headlight and the left split side looks down the left edge of the tires.

Not much value added for a left hand drive truck...Except for the birds...

Somebody had given me this link to SURF site and I had a couple of questions. Since I can't read Japanese characters, I will have to just give you directions. If you go to this link you will see three columns. In the 3rd column, if you click the link in the middle section, it takes you to a list of options. Once you are there, click the "Hight Spirit Version". I was curious about the Black headlights and tailights. I was curious about the descriptions and what the US dollar amount would be.

I hope that wasn't too painful to get through. Thanks.

I'm fairly positive someone said the headlights won't fit, but the taillights will.

They'll fit, but they are made for RHD and flare to the left which means you'll blind people and they are not DOT.

You probably wouldn't get away with them on for long. The tails would work for sure but I'm not sure if they are legal in the states either.
