Intermittent hard brake pedal after initial application - '00 4runner.
I have a 2000 4runner that if you jam on the brakes, the first stop is ok, but if you let off the pedal and apply it immediately again in many cases you get the hard pedal.
The brakes have never felt awe inspiring since we test drove it, but they have never been in the " Oh, Sheeeeet" category, either.
I have had the passenger side real axle seal leak fixed about 2 years ago and now have an extended rear axle breather. They may not have changed the shoes, though, as I noticed oil on them yesterday when I was getting the tires rotated.
I cleaned them last night, and both drums feel warm after braking and I do not notice any pulling.
After a bunch of research I decided I would try a different booster.
Got a boneyard unit 1st thing this morning out of another '00 runner and there is basically no change.
Could one of the calipers be hanging ?
I read where I could pull the boots out a bit and spray WD40 on the pistons - I may give that a whirl.
I hate tossing parts and $'s at it , but felt the booster was cheap enough, and a reasonable enough possibility, that it was worth a shot.
Any thoughts are appreciated - thanks !

In case anybody needs the master cylinder to booster gasket P/N
P/N 47275-12020 at $ 1.82.
Not used yet as I have not been able to adjust the booster rod length on the original sitting in the garage and don't want to screw the one in the truck up experimenting ...
*sigh*
Wrenching is fun , huh ?

All my 4runners all have a hard pedal if you apply the brakes immediately after letting off, don't do that, do you have ABS, if so you should already no to never pump brakes. What is you idle, it should be 750, if it is 1000Rpm you will have hard brakes.

I am not pumping, but rather doing back to back stops.
I noticed the wife's 01 Ranger acts similarly , so maybe it is normal for ABS , but if so, I don't understand it.
Thanks !
