I talked to someone at hidexpress.com, asked them where the hid system gets its power, he said from the factory wire harness. wouldnt it be better to get the power straight from the battery. is there a risk in frying the factory wires from their system? Anyone know of a better system? after a lot of reading, this is what I want, 4200k not rebased hid bulbs, cutoff shields with h4 adapter, and personally i think its better with a system that connects to the battery, and uses a relay from the factory harness to operate the system. The reason I am not getting projectors is so i can switch out the bulbs for inspection. I will align these hids the best that I can so I will not blind other drivers. If you know of a good system like this, please let me know

Definitely run a relay. You can cut the harness they send you and wire it to a relay. The kits I've seen actually have a relay and get power from the battery.

whats the websites of the kits youve seen with the relays? It would be nice to just have it come like that. I guess I could wire it myself though. look at the shields I will get here, these will stop blinding other drivers, right? Obviously im not going to have a clean cutoff line, cause, well its not real hid projectors.

I saw them on eBay. Those shields should help keep from blinding people.

Don't get the 6000K's the 4300K's will not only give you better contrast in the rain, and in general, it will also make it look more like stock color head lights. HID's on vehicles that are not equipped with them are illegal. If you want to lower your risk of getting in trouble with that, I suggest the 4300K's

What's up with a blue light? It doesn't look like you have much light on the road, just hot spot. May be I am wrong?

I went the cheap route and had a pleasant surprise. Some aftermarket lights work great and some are really poor - these turned out to wonderful! Great pattern, musch better than the sealed beams. I got lucky - they were $15 from ebay including shipping. Now to replace those stupid annoying blue bulbs....

go with HIDs you wont regret. You'll get plenty of stares when you turn them on at dusk. When HIDs ignite, they're so pretty to look at remember, HIDs only draw 35W and that means less work for your alternator, so you dont get the dimming dashboard gauges when you turn them on. I dont think a 100W bulbs would be ideal due to excessive heat it'd be generating not to mention the extra current that's required(x3 the wattage of HIDs) I've had aftermarket bulb and they dont work(4100k rating that they claim is so misleading) especially in rain. If projectors look right in my housing I would do a retro but personally I dont think they look good in big square hosing. So what's up dibble? did you get the OEM kits from Ebay yet?

I had thought for a while about fitting the 4Runner integrated headlights (instead of these rectangular bulbs) and maybe HIDs. But, I've decided that anything that costs real money must make it perform - it's becoming an offroader - it's show days are long past. I just cannot see the money to put HIDs in, not to mention the hassle of getting them to actually work right. Especially when regular headlights with good bulbs do the job just fine, and a couple extra lights for fog and offroad fill in the gaps nicely. BUT you are correct - they do look great. I like the sound they make when the energise.

Kind of my own off-topic question, but would this kit work?

wow I just realized this thread came back, No I never did get the HID's, I really wanted to though. Main reason is that its illegal here in the great state of VA, and my truck wouldnt pass inspection with aftermarket hid's. Second reason is I wanted to do a retro so I wouldnt blind other people and thought it would look weird in a big square headlight.

As it was stated here before ALL HID KITS are illegal since last October. You could get a ticket and then would be required to remove your kit. Spend about $200 more (ticket fine) and do Real HID retrofit, you will not regret it. I used to have Philips Vision Plus bulbs and would get flash occasionally, since I did my retro about 9 month I didn't have a single flash.
I could only work on one headlight at the time and when first was completed and installed, the output was so much better and more than both Halogen Vision Plus bulbs. This is probably one of my best mods to my truck after ARBs off course.
