Ignition systems

I was wondering if anyone has done a revamp of their ignition systems. Are there any after market distributors? What kind of coil does the system on the 3vz use? Suggested plug wires? What kind of boxes have you guys use? MSD? Jacobs? Others? I'm just looking at some cheaper horsepower and ignition systems tend to be on the cheaper side of performance. As always, any constructive input is appreciated.

Check out my website in the mods section. I wrote a short review on my Jacobs system.

Can't be of too much help to you. I do run an MSD-6T with a Mallory UniLite distributor but not on a Toyota engine. FWIW, I do like the improvements I got as a result but it replaced a stock point type ignition so it wasn't too hard to do.

What I've noticed is most ignition systems seem to be for V8s. I haven't had much luck find aftermarket 6 cyl. distributors. I mean boxes and coils are pretty much universal, but all distributors I've seen seem to be for v8s

And the few 4 and 6 cylinder distributors I've seen have all been for domestics. It may be time to visit with the ricers, they'll have more knowledge of aftermarket import support. Whether Toy trucks engines have coverage is anyones guess.

I had a Jacobs system in my 22RE and now have an MSD and it has been more reliable than the Jacobs. Here's an article from 4x4wire about the Jacobs system on a 3.0, HERE
