Question "idling in the morning" question

Hi,

I have 91 4Runner V6 2WD 99K miles. When I start it in the morning (I live in SoCal, so it's not that cold) it idles at 1100-1300 rpm, but it used to idle at 1500-1700 rpm (before I've done HG recall). Is it normal????

Thanx

yah, this seems pretty normal.

I think what happens is that the previous owner probably neglected throttle body cleanings and when they brought it in for service they probably adjusted the idle to spec without cleaning the tb. So over time it gets really out of whack. So what probably happened was when they replaced the HG they probably cleaned out your tb pretty well and reset the idle back to where is supposed to be. when cold it should idle somewhere like 1.3k or 1.4k like u said, when warm it should be @ 750 (for california at least i believe)

furthermore, if you have a 5spd, then if you lower the rpms below idle speed and then put it in neutral, they will not return to the normal idle speed, they'll be a little lower. this is normal and is caused by the way the vaccum system is designed.
