Let them total it, buy it back for cheap, and then fix it for cheap. Then you will make some money off the deal but you're left with a salvage title.

Then turn it into a hardcore trail rig .

Damn Todd, that really sucks. I know how well you cared for your rig.

You must have good self control. I think I would have fliped out talking to that girl. It gives me chills just thinking about it.

I'm sure they will have your rig fixed for you, or at least compensate you for it.

Totalled due to accident you usually can buy it back. Totalled due to theft you usually cannot buy it back.

Hmmm....thats amazing that someone whom ISN"T intoxicated would do that , and leave the scene. Doesn't make a whole lot of sence to me. However coming back to the scene , and admitting guilt is admirable.
You should be in for an easy ride with the INS co. hit & run should be fairly simple. Although I am one who would normally try to come to a conclusion on my own in this case I would give the INS one chance to make it right , and if not off to the next level.
It'll all work out.

Yep, I would also fax a "report" to any body shop you can in the area.. As for being totaled.. I bet it is still worth 4k or so, body is not bad, will need a spring and probably an axle.. It is fixiable.. body damage is repairable.

No, not a cop but I work with a few

We've seen a rise in DUIs in the last year. I'm not sure but I think CHP has lost more officers in the last 2 years than before because of collisions involving DUIs.

Sorry to hear about it - good luck.

Really admirable that the Gal came back and fessed up, and good job keeping your cool. Thinking back to when I was 16/17, that would take a lotta guts, especially when its the boyfriend's dad's car!

Just found out a bit ago that the adjuster came out and looked the 4runner over.
They gave me a call and told me it was totaled
They will call me tomorrow with the details. Hopefully they will give me a decent amount so i can repair the 4runner.
Not sure what is going on with the insurance. The gal that hit me called yesterday and told me that her insurance will not cover the accident. Apparently her insurance is saying the the boyfriends insurance should cover it because it was his vehicle.
Well come to find out that it actually was a car off dads car lot
Corey, this is the car lot at the bottom of your hill (The Point).
The couple want to get things fixed and want to make payments to me.
On the up side, my insurance gave me this to get back and forth to work.

What a sweet ride. Anyone want to loan me $47,000

Guess i will start pricing out body parts now.

As someone else said, if you have insurance this shouldn't be your problem. It is your insurance company's job to take care of you then they can go try to collect from the other parties involved.

Todd, payments?
That doesn't help much.
Make your insurance company go after her or her boy friend.

You are out a vehicle, the time, the sweat, the blood, ect...
Tell your insurance you want it right, and they should be helping you.

Seen this yet?

That lot at the bottom of my hill is pretty empty now, not crowded like it was a few years back.

Gimme a buzz tomorrow if you want after 2 PM.
Gotta hit the fart sack now, have to get up at 2 am with a 4:30 start.

Todd,

It's tough luck on her part. Let me be a complete wank for a paragraph...Who the hell cares if her insurance won't cover it, that's her problem. This is not something you have to work out, this is why you pay money for car insurance. You get your company involved, and let them take over. Eventually, one of the two companies has to claim responsibility. You are not a lawyer. Anybody who calls that girl "admirable" for coming back the next day is a tool. Strike one, taking a car she didn't own off her boyfriend's father's lot. Strike two, probably being intoxicated when it happened- my guess is her boyfriend was loaded, and made her drive. He was probably the one who drove the car to whatever party they were going to, got loaded, and made her drive on the way back. Strike three, thinking they could cover up and get the damage squared away before the father returned. Strike four, realizing they screwed up and may get arrested for leaving the scene of the accident, so coming back with some sob story about how their insurance won't cover it. Oh yeah, these are real fine upstanding individuals. This is not a time to be mister nice guy....

Okay, rant mode off...

I agree with mad chemist 100%. Dont let her make you feel sorry for her. She screwed you, you deserve to have your truck fixed, and she deserves to be delt with by the law. Never in a million years would I accept any payments from her.

I also agree with the chemist. Have your insurance company deal with it. Never accept a payment from her.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I think that you are handling it very well. I don't completely agree with chemist though. Admitting guilt is very admirable, especially from young adults in our society today. But my concern is, is this young couple being completely honest? Who knows if she was driving at all, it could have been him. Would you have been so nice if he came to you and admitted that he had done it? Probably not. Sounds like they could be playing on your sympathy - young girl, a lot of crying, etc. And now that she has admitted it, whether or not it was her fault, then she is going to have to take responsibility. Another thing is the fact that she could have been drunk and since she drove off there will be no way of knowing that. So, she could have possibly gotten out of a DUI. If she was in fact DUI, would you have the same sympathy with her? I wouldn't. This matter truly needs to be turned over to the insurance company and the authorities. Sounds as though this girl needs to grow up and part of growing up is making decisions and taking responsibility for those decisions. Hopefully, it will be a valuable "life lesson" for this young girl.

Well i just got off the phone with my insurance. They did total out my 4runner for $4,300.
I need to subtract my deductible of $500 for $3,800. If i want to buy back my 4runner it would cost me $875. That would leave me around $2,900 to fix my rig.
I have a guy coming by later today that works at a larger body shop. He said that more than likely the axel is bent.
He said off the top of his head i could be in for over $3,000 just for new axel, body repair, and suspension.
So i am going to take a look in the Auto Trader and see if i can find something else.
So what do you think. Is it feasable to put it back together for that amount or should i start looking for something else?
Sure am sick of insurance BS!

even if you got everything fixed ... once a vehicle has been in a major collision it will never be "normal" again .. there wil always be something ... I think your better off finding something in better shape. Maybe even buy back the old rig and part it out and try to get more then $875 for it too. In that way you get some more money.

good luck with this ....
