Well, I did it. I'm no longer the owner of a 4Runner... and that makes me sad. When I picked up my truck from the mechanic (not the stealership), it wouldn't even start. So, on top of the current issues, nw I have starting issues as well. So, I took it to the dealership and they ended up giving me $6k towards a new car as well as $2500 from the MFG. So, I ended up putting $8500 down towards a new Chrysler 300 Touring. It's black (of course) with REAL leather (not Toyota "leather"). It has a sunroof, Sirius radio and that UConnect Bluetooth system (LOVE that option). My payments are nothing for the next 3 years... it's going to take 16 months for the payments to equal $4k (cost of 4Runner repairs). As much as I'm sad I don't have my truck anymore... the 300 is an insanely gorgeous and smooth running car. I'll be getting another 4Runner (probably an '85) in about 2-3 years and then fixing it up to be a crawler. Definately going 4x4 this time. But at this point in my life (money, work, kids, etc)... the sedan was the way to go. But I'll be back when I show off my "new" 1st gen and then you all can watch that build up. I'll still be lurking around and piping in every now and then. Thanks for all of your help... you are the best.

I would have LOVED to have completely stripped my 4Runner and sold everything off. The problem was time. The dealer was semi cooperative with the price though because of all of the stuff I had. I did manage to take a few of the easier things off... they are listed in the marketplace now.

Yeah, it takes time and patience. Of which I have niether but I do have some knowledgeable friends to watch and a father that neverf believed in taking anything to the mechanic. There's a right tool for everything and having tools helps.

I have TONS of tools... just don't have the time or the know how. I also didn't have a car, and for someone who commutes 80 miles a day, it was real hard to find rides to work. So, I had to make a decision quickly so I could get my rides situated. Only option was to get a rental car, but then it would be even more money.

Not if i beat you to them, or hijack the mail man as he goes to deliver them to you, or take his new *cough* 300 hostage until he hands over the goods....

ErikJenna,
I feel your pain. Due to incipient HG issues, I traded in my 89 V6 P/U (300K miles) for a Saab 9-2x. First car I have had in 19 years and 2 Toy trucks. The Saabaru is fun to drive, but only having a 4runner cuts into what I haul bulky items in. Oh well, in a couple of years the wife can get Jeep for herself, and I will get the 4runner for play.

Holy crap. i just read this whole thread and feel like i witnessed a gang rape. poor guy! dealers will not give you ANYTHING for extra stuff on your car. always take it off. I used to work at a dealer and would take anything good off a car before it got wholesaled away. They wholesale any car that isn't within 2 years old, has super low miles, or is a special item. This truck will be wholesaled and some used car lot will try to get it running and sell it to some teenage victim in a few weeks.
Chrysler??? good lord. never buy a car with a star. How many K-Cars, Omni/horizons, Sundance/shadows, daytona/lasers, etc/etc, do you still see going? They just don't make 'em to last. Good luck dude!

I hear ya... but my dad has a 2002 300 and it runs smooth as silk. Only has 40k on it too. Mine only needs to last for 3 years and everything is covered under warranty up to 50k... I'm only allowed 45k, so I should be fine.

So you leased it? You travel 80 miles a day and you think in 3 years you are only gonna put 45k miles on it? My wife drives 80 miles round trip 4 days a week and she is avg 30k miles a year..
