Damn man I just realized you have a 99 SR5, thats still freakin new isn't it

Maybe you lucked out and the sudden, well for lack of words the sudden intake of water in the intake stalled the engine out then it just drained in, engines stall with no air, who knows.

You could always be the 1st guy with a 3rd Gen that has a swapped in 4.7 I just had to say it, I can't be the only one thinking it.

Good luck,

Im new to rig rollovers but am wondering if you can start your rig after you roll it on its side. It was mentioned earlier that somebody rolled there rig and broke some stuff. I rolled mine on its side and havent started it yet. Sitting at the shop again. Thanks.

Was the other end of that mudhole much deeper? It's not deep enough where he's at in the picture.

That's why I didn't think I'd do any damage where I entered the mud hole it was only a few feet deep, but I was travelling pretty fast. I wanted to make a huge splash.... and I did...hehe

I've been doing some searching around and found one of the used japanese imported engines for $1650 locally, I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow, if they have it in stock, I'll pick it up this weekend.

My TJM-15 bumper arrived today........I'm kind of bummed that I won't be able to install it til after I get my engine replaced.

Oh, well I had 72,000 miles on the engine...... as for insurance, I'm not even gonna place a claim with my company. It was my own fault, so I'll just bite the bullet. I guess my new tires and rims are now gonna have to wait a bit longer.

If it was just on it's side, you're probably alright. I was the time I put mine on its side. It was only when I put it on its roof that I had troubles. I'd still be safe and pull the plugs first though. If your in a garage it's not like your out in the boonies and it's raining.

I did the same thing and they covered. I was too broke to cough up the cash and it was my DD, so I had to get it fixed ASAP. I called, was honest and upfront about it. The secretaries rejected me on the spot, but I then talked to my actual insurrance person and he said no problem. They gave me $2k to fix it...If you are like me and pay almost $2k a year for insurrance...they are still making loads of cash off you : wroth a shot. It was all my fault too...

Had SkyRat tow me out to the Freeway, then called AAA, it cost $155.00 to get it towed back to my house.

The amount I pay for insurance each year isn't worth the increase in premiums, if I file a claim.

I have an engine being delivered to my house tomorrow from: http://www.nippon-motors.com/index.htm

The cost is gonna be $1550 plus tax with free delivery!

look at www.car-part.com

They have a good selection of motors.
That was the first place I looked, unfortunately most of the places with good prices are too far away and shipping would cost too much, besides if there was a problem with the engine, it would be difficult and costly to get it taken care of. I'd rather deal with a place more local, with a good warranty. I've purchase around 10 used imported japanese in the past and only had one, that had any problems.

I should have the old motor out and the new one in by tomorrow night, provided everything goes smoothly and if I can get all the gaskets and little parts needed. I may replace the clutch while it's apart too.

Wow, that's a pretty quick turn around. You gotta post some pics of the tear down.

Good Luck

Ok, I got the old engine out today and finally know exactly what happened. Well it was hydrolock pure and simple, enough water entered the cylinder that when the piston was on it's compression stroke the rod snapped and blew through the side of the block....

As for progress, I got the new engine delivered just as my old one came out, unfortunately it wasn't gonna be a simple swap, since the one that came is an automatic instead of a manual, so I had to swap out the flywheel and have to get a pilot bearing for the crank. The exhaust was different, actually better, but I don't want to have to go through the trouble of building a new exhaust system. It's cast Iron manifolds with larger ports and with dual pipes. The throttle body assembly is different too, so I had some cleaning to do.

I took my time and checked out everything, the engine is actually in very nice shape. I spent a few hours just cleaning out my old intake manifolds, throttle body and air box, they were full of mud... and the rest of the parts I'm gonna reuse.

Tomorrow, I'll go down and buy all the gaskets, bearing, clutch friction plate, plugs, oil and filters, then install the engine and if all goes well, have my Runner back on the road by night fall.

I imagine that is a used engine. Do you know how many miles it has in it?

Hell of a good price for that engine, still.

I started working on it this morning around 9:30 am and had the engine out by 11:00 am, the other engine arrived around 11:30. then I spent the next few hours just removing all the un-needed parts and checking out the engine for any possible problems. After that I began clean-up of all the parts I was gonna reuse, had lunch somewhere in between and put everything away about 5:00 pm. Tomorrow I'll get my parts around 9:00 am and get started about 10:00 or 11:00, should have the engine in by noon time and running by 4:00 pm.

I decided I'd just take my time and double check everything, so I didn't break out my air tools....

I have to fabricate new splash guards, it was in the works, was waiting for my new front bumper to arrive so I could finish the front fenders. Then I can install the inner fender wells.
