hub/rattle/noise/annoying
hey,
i installed my manual hubs not to long ago, and i was wondering how to get the loose front axel shafts from rattling when they arent in the lock position. Its embarrasing to go down my neighborhood street while everyone is looking at you because they think ur car is broken. Ummm, yeah so that rattling noise is annoying. Anyway to stop the rattle would be great.

something is wrong as the the axle shafts should not be loose and rattling.
does the noise go away when if you lock the hubs (in 2wd)?
if so, one possibility is that your spindle bushings are worn.
with the hubs locked, the axle shafts are held tight by the hub, so, even if the spindle bushings are worn, the axle shaft will still be held in place.
but, when the hubs are unlocked, the only thing that keeps the axle shaft from jumping around is the spindle bushing. if they are worn, they allow the axle shafts to move around a bit and make a rattling noise.

you proabably broke your spindles. I put my hubs on myself and didn't know what i was doing and they didnt seat right and I broke my spindles. I didn't find out about it until my brakes got so bad i ran into a car and had to have everything replaced, they found the broken spindles and had to do rotors, shoes, pads, and the works.....expensive.
