So respond!

Since you had your supercharger (with trans coolers) what type of transmission problems have you had over the years?

Not to hijack, but could you also say how long and how many miles you've had the supercharger on for. I think that would say more.

No tranny issues with about 5k on with the S/C... only one smoked clutch.

I know you were looking for autos, but I thought I would just chime in

ever been to gadget's site?? www.gadgetonline.com he has alot of good stuff about his 96 4Runner... i have had my s/c for about 10K... only the clutch is what really will give way soon.. just cant handle the power... your tranny will suffer in the long run from all that extra power.. maybe you should consider a better torque converter...

30,000 miles trouble free. I just put the cooler on a few weeks ago.

You won't regret the supercharger

No problems so far...

I've had the SC on for about 15K ('99 'Runner) and immediately noticed a big shift lag when hitting it hard. It would literally take a full second or more to shift into 2nd gear. It not only made for some lame acceleration with that dead spot, but I figured it couldn't be doing the AT any good.

I took it to John at IPT and had him do the valve body mod, and the shift lag disappeared. In fact, it's so firm my wife dubbed the 'Runner "Lurch."

What I don't understand is why some need the mod and others don't. Mike's doing fine without it and I had no choice if I wanted to get on it at all (and face it, that's the reason most of us want the SC to begin with, right? )

You need to add up the total cost of adding the SC:

1) Supercharger
2) Installation of #1
3) Transmission cooler
4) Installation of #3
5) Premium gas instead of regular
6) URD's performance kit (to eliminate pinging)
7) Installation of #6
8) Valve body modification

You may not need to do all of these things, but in trying to make the decision, you should assume the worst. I love my 'Runner, but looking back, I'm not sure I'd have bought the SC if I had it to do over again. It had plenty of spunk when it was stock (compared with my old '95!)

That's my two cents ...
