Hey, it's that ZR2 guy, who let him in

 

yeah it used to flex pretty good with the coils, I was happy with the flex, until I started breaking parts, like 5/8" bolts and ripping mounting tabs, you know, stuff like that.

Now, with the springs solidly mounted, I feel much safer about the parts staying put, and I havn't really figured out how much stuff and flex I'm getting yet.

man that green runner sure is up there, looks awesome.. but I'd be scared to take it on one of my fav. trails cause of the angles.. seems it'd like to flip easy?

 

I've had it on Broad Canyon in Las Cruces and its actually quite stable. Not as scary as you might think when first looking at it.

i was commenting on the poser nerf bars on the ZR2. it goes well with that high clearance front bumper he's rockin'. (no pun intended)

 

I was surprised at how well that ZR2 did on the trail.

 

Looks good Steve. Think the front could use some more lift or the back a little less, but it is huge now.

As for getting in to the big rigs, I think that 37's will make me need to jump a little and I am looking forward to it.

What are the plans for the rear bumper?

 

you know every time I start thinking "almost done, there isn't too much more I can do to this rig". I see something like this. and its just good job though, definitely looking forward to the write up

 

Saving money is always a good thing. So, I may try and modify my current rear bumper to fit the 4Runner. The sliders are on the floor, waiting to be installed, and the bumper is sitting out back, with the rest of my spare parts. I gotta do something, I'm dieing to get out and climb some rocks.

 

Those are actually pretty stout sliders he's got on there, not nerf bars, and not all of us can just go out and buy a TJM like you.

Chuck's ZR2 does quite well. In fact, I wouldn't challenge him, he's got you and I beat with at least a rear locker.

I think it's OK to mess with somone, but I at least know the guy. He actually came to last years CO4RJ. He's a good dude.

 

JIM, is that an aftermarket locker or factory locker?

And you're right, just because it is not a TOYOTA, I would not underestimate its capabilities.

 

Here is a pic of the "poser nerfs" in action last week in Baja Mexico. I was 500 or so miles south of San Diego when I had to change a flat. These "poser nerfs" are holding up pretty good I'd say, especially with 500+ pounds of gear in the back.


I bought these rock sliders from AedoFab in Illinois http://www.aedofab.com/. One of the few places that makes anything for the ZR2. Lack of aftermarket is one of the reasons why I'm thinking of going with a Toyota next. Not to mention I have 135k+ on this truck which is a 2001. I drive it a lot. I'm not here to compare brands, I'm here because I have friends here and to research some Yota info. Lastly, to answer the locker question, it is a GM gov-lock locker. It locks automatically when wheel spin is more than 5mph between wheels. Works great in most applications, BUT rock crawling, where I spend a lot of my time.
