Hi all!

Hi All! im new to the forums and my 4Runner. The 4Runner really suprised me! I never really noticed them on the road alot before I got one. My Uncle used to own a toyota dealership in Hanover PA and he bought a 4runner to tow his boat around the chesapeake bay. Recently he purchased a new avalon so back in december he said if I got good grades he would give me the 4runner so I hunkered down and starting studying  Well I got my first car (4runner) about a week ago and it has a few dings and such...the accelerator seems to stick and give (The dealership said it was some sort of solenoid that needed greasing and they did it and it didnt work) but other than that the interior is immaculate and the wood trim really adds alot. Now im trying to figure out in what areas of the truck should I put my money. I'm def putting in a nice clarion reciever and maybe purchase the hood w/ good scoop if I get the supercharger(no use in having it look mean if it isnt right?
My 4Runner is a 2.7L 4wd. Does anyone have any experience or opinions about the 4 cyl?or the TRD supercharger for the 2.7? well I look forward to hearing the wisdom that fills these boards
-Matt

Hi Matt. Welcome to the board. I am not too familiar, so I do not want to tell you the wrong thing. But what I did want to do was welcome you do the board. You WILL find wisdom and help here. This is a great board, the BEST out there! You will find advice and help with any and all questions you may have. You will also notice the size of you wallet to drastically decrease over time, but it is all worth it. Have fun and enjoy! :fireman:

Re: Hi all!
Welcome!
Is it a manual? And if so, can you describe how/when it sticks?

My 4runner
Thanks for the warm welcome Btown , Ron, and Shane
My 4runner is an automatic. When my foot is off the pedal and I go to push the pedal down it sticks for a second and then it gives and the engine shoots up to 1700 rpms and then i have freen range of motion until I let off the pedal again and once again...it sticks when I go to put my foot back on to accelerate.

Ah, ok. I was thinking if you had a manual that mabye it was just the dashpot acting normally and making it seem like the throttle was briefly sticking open. In your case I can't be of much help but I'm sure someone else here can, we've got a handfull of Toyota and other mechanics floating around the board.

Welcome to the forums Specialized.
I have not heard to much feedback on the super charger for your engine, but I'm sure it's gotta rip with it on there.
Your 4 banger has as much HP as my 3.0 V6, 150 HP I beleive.

Aloha Matt!
I own a 97 4wd. 2.7L too! But mines a manual transmission.
Anyway, my pedal did the same thing (an occasional "sticking -stuck" idle), and what I found out is that my throttle body was dirty and needed to be cleaned.
You can do this your self or have your mechanic do it. Remove the "bellows tube" from the throttle body & look inside. If it's dirty & black in there, that could be your problem. So, this is what you do, get a can of carburetor cleaner, & a brush. Spray into the trottle body & brush to remove. Compressed air with a blow tip is helpful to blow it out clean. When done, reinstall tube & see if it works!
I hope it helps....... It helped me!
Oh yeah', make sure your air filter's clean!
Mike

Welcome aboard. Another 2.7 owner here. I would love the SC for mine. Power is decent but the torque department could use help...I'm sure you know what I mean. Hey Mike, I got the Venom 400 for the 2.7. I took it out...felt too 'hot rod' for my auto tranny. It may work better for a stick...let me know if ya want it...cheap.

Welcome Matt, I have that happen to my Nissan pickup about every other year and it is just dirty injectors. Mine usually takes 2 bottles of injector cleaner with 2 fill ups to clean them out. That is if you have fuel injection. Hopes this helps.
