Help Sealing Rear Diff

Yea I have kinda tried that. I just did the bottom half though because that was where it was leaking from. I just put it on and tightened it immediatly. How would you go about applying it? I was thinking about cleaning/extending my differential breather to relieve some presssure too.

Originally I hit a rock and there is scrathches from about an inch infront of where my 3rd member and axle meet to about right before where the plug starts. I once tried to put some silicone in there and tighten it real quick to seal it.

Is there a specific type of silicone sealant for gear oil?

Would the gasket and silicone work best togther?

Also Is there an easy way to get the axle shafts out without pulling it apart and all?
