HELP - problems with rear window/wiper/defrost

howdy all-

i have a 95 4runner. the rear window will not go up; the rear defrost does not come on; the rear wiper does not function. when i switch on the headlights, the interior light for the defroster and read window up/down switch also do not illuminate. i obviously suspect a fuse. but which fuse controls read door function? help!!! my window is stuck down and it's COLD here in western Massachusetts!

open up your fuse box in the driver side kick panel and look at the little "map" it will tell you which fuse is for what. also if it isn't there, look at the fuses under the hood. hope this helps. oh and maybe your window lock is on and your back window button just happens to be burt out. when the window is down, the rear defrost wont work and neither will the windsheild wiper. sometimes its stupid little stuff like that.

also its not always the fuse you think it may be. I blew a fuse in my runner about a month ago and none of my guage lights would come on and it turned out to be my brake light fuse.

If the rear window doesn't fully close then the defrost & wiper will not work. At least that is how it is on a 3rd gen.

Address the window issue and the others will most likely be fine.

Did the same thing on my 1990 4 runner - trying to troublshoot the rear window defroster - I found out after hours of looking - that the damn window had to be up ! I still have not fixed the defroster - power there
but the grid won't heat. I purchased a 12 volt fan/heater and mounted it
dead center at the top - wired it to the defroster switch at the dash and
it works pretty good - not enough to brag about but better than nothing !

I drove it for a year and griped about the windows fogging up inside until someone on her told me to move the switch to allow outside air and to engage the A/C switch with the defroster in the heat mode and I have had no more problems ! Pass the tip along !
