Help Please with interior lights!

All,

In my 97 4Runner, the interior lights (map, footwell, and dome) have ceased coming on when a door is opened. Checked fuses and tried opening all four doors individually to see if any would turn the lights on, but no good. The lights all work perfectly if I set switch to "On", but when set to "Door" does nothing. The ground to the lights is not getting from the door jamb switch back to the dome light, but I don't know where to look for it?

Is there a relay, or something else anyone here could help me find or troubleshoot? I tried searching, but found little on it.

Thanks a bunch for any help!

Try cleaning the connection on the switch with a screw driver or pocket knife. If that does not work, try looking at a wiring diagram (there are some online in the repair manual section of www.autozone.com) to see what wire is common to all of those lights. Trace that wire and see if there is a bad connection.

Since it doesn't work with any of the doors I would think its a cable break some were from your door pin switches to the trigger circuit that turns on the doom lights since you check to see if there was no blow fuses cause if there were when you turn teh light switch to turn on the lights it would of failed too. I vote broken wire, usually they all come back to a central place and are wires up is paralel to one another.
Good luck in your search..

I would say take apart the switch(on ,off, door)on the domelight sometimes they get corrosion on the contacts and that's might be causing it to fail. I had rust on mine and cleaned it up and it worked fine after.
