help....cv leaking after lift install

help....cv leaking after lift install

after installing the lift (top out spacer and rear polly spacer) the cv's are starting to sling grease from the inner cv boot on each side. (-<) the smaller side of the boot from the differential. the boots closer to the wheels are fine. i plan on ordering the diff drop, but the angles of the cv's look fine for now. just wanted to know if this will help with the grease?

i have read that you can fix this with hose clamps....just how do you apply the clamps? over the metal clamp on the cv or remove the metal clamp and replace with hose clamp?

and the spacer lift rides just as nice as stock for me so far. i dont wheel it for now so it lets me fit my 255/85/16 with very minor valance trim. ill get pics up soon. cell phone wont upload pics... the truck does look sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!

The diff drop might help but it won't stop it. I have the diff drop on mine and I'm still losing a little grease. The hose clamps will work but after a while they tend to slice through the boot. This may be kinda hard to explain but on the stock metal clamps, there are little "pinch points" that are like little tabs sticking out of the clamp used to tighten them down. If you can get at a couple of those with some side cutters (careful not to cut through them) and tighten those clamps up, that will probably be the best bet aside from purchasing new boots.

I've had hose clamps on for over two years now... no cutting through boots

just rip off old clamp with pliers, clean, wrap a little electrical tape around for protection, and apply hose clamp, just make sure you know how tight to do it, many people over tighten hose clamps

inspect once a week for a while until you are satisfied you did it well

another option is metal zip ties, I bought some but haven't had any issues with hose clamps requiring me to try them

They could have been slinging grease before your lift. Mine were but i only noticed it until i was working up under there.

Only things i had to do with that size is take off my mud flaps and fender trim, pound the pinchweld with a bfh, and cut the rear bumper. But driving normally I didn't get much rubbing, i trimmed because of stuffing them up in the wheel wells.

after quoting and repling to all of your great info my computer decides to update @$$%$#@!

long story short.....i drive 60 miles round trip for work. i wiped down the grease and did not see any more slinging for now.*fingers crossed* is there a fitting to re-grease the boots? i did not see one. better safe than sorry. how much grease is to much to loose?

I had one leak for 2 months. When I rebuilt the axles they were still full of grease. There is a lot of grease in the CV boots. Here's a picture of the rebuild kit, look how much grease they give you for each boot.
