I'd just reset the ECU by pulling the fuse...(are those the right terms?) Same thing when one does a deckplate or something with the intake, you need to reset the computer so it makes adjustments according to the new intake.

Thats the cheapest thing to try first IMO.

Good point.
Put your after market intake back on.
Then unplug your bat to reset the ECU
Run for a little bit.
If the engine is still running rough and you still get a CEL then get the code pulled and work off of that.

Reset the ECU, and it runs alot better than when the light came on....but I can still feel it a little bit.....I'll start this weekend with new spark plugs and see how that does, but thanks for the ECU reminder....... I thought I did that, but guess not, it's actually drivable now!!

Well, that didn't last long, dropped my girlfriend at the house, and then the check engine light came back on and it drove terrible.....I know I've said this a thousand times, but I think I will call monday for sure and just take it to the shop.....I'm tired of guessing.

Back from Advanced Auto with what I believe to be good news!

P0304
Cylinder 4
Misfire Detected

This makes much sense as the problem and tomorrow I have a free day, which means new plugs/wires and hopefully a fully functional 4runner!

Mine had similar issues after my K & N....stutter, and bad acceleration. Check MAF, TPS, PLugs, like someone else said--mine ended up being a faulty o2 sensor I had just replaced.. the brand I bought had a bad design.good luck

There ya go.
Change the plugs and wires.
Clean the MAF and Throttle body while you have the intake out of the way while you are changing the plugs.

Is there a write up about changing the plugs and wires? I'm sure I can do it, but I never have before and just want to do it right.

The problem is the intake!!! (If it is greased up like the K&N intakes are)

I had the same thing happen with my 99' tacoma when i put the K&N intake on. The problem is the lube that is used, it clugs up the Mass airflow sensor. I ended up having to take the intake off after replacing the sensor twice, they are not cheap at all.

I was so freaking mad that they would sell products that completely F%#k up you truck, I called and bitched them out but they really didnt care!!

I'll try the spark plugs first since my pistons are misfiring......that has to be most of the problem, especially since many people run intakes on their trucks without problems.

You may also have a bad fuel injector.....it's more common that you'd think.
Do a search on YT and you'll find the procedure to check that yourself.
