HELP! 4runner MAF fix led to speedo error!
Ok, I got the check engine light. An OBDII said system to lean. After reading over some things, this is usually caused by a dirty MAF. I removed the MAF and cleaned it. Great! Problem fixed. So, of course, in the process of doing this I messed up something else. In order to access my MAF I removed the throttle-sensor thingy - the assembly where the throttle cable terminates against the firewall by the air-intake. Actually I removed the whole bracket, put it aside, did the MAF (after stripping the stupid screws), and put the bracket back in place as it was. Now, my speedometer is consistantly 10mph above what I am really driving, and just based on feel, I think my tach is a bit off too. Why is this?? By removing and then reaffixing the bracket, did I error in some tollerance of tightening or spacing??? Can the MAF do this??? Please help!!!!! It is a 2000 Toyota 4runner SR5.

I'd love to help, but I do not quite understand what else your removed in order to access the MAF. On my 2001 with the 3.4, the MAF came off with two small screws. I unhooked the electrical connection at the MAF and had the sensor in hand. Could you provide a pic of what else you removed?

How are you testing that the speedometer is above normal?

4Runner MAF/Speedo
I found out my speed was off when I was on my way home after cleaning the MAF. I noticed that my speed was really off in relation to how fast I felt I was going. I paced a friend of mine at 40 and 60 MPH. Both times I was off by exactly 10mph (ie, 50 and 70mph). It is very odd. If that is what that compenent is (cruise control) then that makes no sense that it would cause any deviation in my speedometer. All I removed was that and the MAF, and put them both back (at least I think) exactly how they were in before. I will try to take a photo and post it. But these two parts aside, what else could cause that? I may have bumped something? It is really annoying to be going 50 and have your 4runner say 60!
