Help
Ok heres my story. About 6 months ago I bought a 91 4runner with the 3.0. Didn't know much about Toyotas but I knew they had an outstanding reputation. So test drove it and bought it. A few miles down the road I noticed it didn't have that much power and the check engine light came on. So I got home and pulled the code and it gave me a code 25 which is lean fuel mixture. So I took the throttle body off after reading peoples posts and cleaned the idle air control valve. After that she ran fine...no stumbling or hesitation and as good as expected gas mileage. So after about 4 months...the problem came up again. So I took the throttle body back off again and cleaned the IACV and it still did the same thing. So I dug further and heres what I've bought so far.
MAF sensor from Toyota
New plugs, wires, cap and rotary button
Temp sensor
Cold start injector time switch
TPS (Adjusted from 4crawler site)
Vacuum modulator
EGR Valve from toyota
EGR temp sensor
Gas filter in the side of the intake
3 cans of Berrymans fuel injector cleaner
Cleaned throttle body out with throttle body cleaner
Replaced O2 sensor about 4 months ago
Thats off the top of my head. Now however I did (without knowledge) cut the fuel filter off the side of the frame and run a high pressure fuel hose in place of the filter because I bought a glass one to put up in the engine bay to monitor it. Little did I know It was the wrong filter not made for fuel injection so I never put one in. However this problem came up before I cut the filter off. I am replacing one inline by forming new line in a wewek or so when I get the money. Ok heres the up to date report. After adjusting TPS last night by 4crawlers site I also adjusted the idle down to 700RPM from the idle adjusting screw. Oh....also replaced the air valve because I tried the test of adjusting the idle screw all the way down when it gets warm and it would want to quit. Haynes manual said the idle shouldn't change if the motor is warm so new air valve it was. Now when I start it up in the mornings it misfires like crap until I get it going down the road then it opens up like a new truck. Then like after 5-7 miles it starts to stumble and lost power. Now....I saw this IACV had a sleeve around it when I had it out the first time and I tried to take it out with a hammer and screwdriver and no luck but would screw down tighter on the valve thus making the tension on the IACV tighter. So I put it back in and it run like crap so I took it back out and adjusted that sleeve all the way out til it stopped but it had more threads to go. Sometimes I can get going and stomp the gas and it acts like it wants to take off but starts shuddering and no power. Could this IACV be bad? Is there anything behind it that I can't see thats screwed up on it? I am out of money and patience with this 4runner. Oh last but not least I put a timing light on it and it was 4 degrees off so I set it back down to 10 degrees BTDC. It ran like crap So I put it back on the original mark where I had it. Alright guys....SORRY FOR THE BOOK but I just thought this info might help. Thanks for any help! Last thing...when it starts to shake and stumble it gets really rich smelling out the tailpipe.
