HELP!!! 3rd GEN Hitch Rust!!!

Hi Guys,

Need some advice!!! The Factory hitch on my 3rd GEN starts growing some rust. I'm wondering how difficult it is to remove the hitch from the truck and repaint them? Has anyone done this? by youself or by an autobody shop?

Any advice will be appreciate

removing the hitch shouldnt be too hard... there are usualy 4-6 bolts that hold them on... might want to hit the bolts with pb blaster every day, a couple days before you plan to try to remove the bolts to aid in removal

yes, my bolts were a bitch, took it to a mechanic friend who had an impact gun, zapped 'em right off. As far as the rust, mine is rusting too, but you can't really see it with the receiver ball on. Also, that is the least of my worries, it makes it look like it might actually pull something (other than groceries or soccer balls )

Once you get it off and sand the rust down, paint it with black hammer finish from rust-oleum. Its easy to apply and looks good when your finished. If it rust again just repeat - sand, paint, done. I painted my sliders and ARB Bumper with it and they look great.

Thanks guys!

True, bolts are the most scary part of the whole project. I hurted my shoulder last time just to remove a rusted bolt of my fog light. Maybe it's better off leave it a rusty look OR get it done by a bodyshop.

Thanks anyway
