OK so I went out to my truck today, and the drivers mirror was tilted down. I went to move it and it came off in my hand. My question is, does the outer cover pop off from around the mirror base, or do you need to take the door panel off to get to the guts? Anyone know?

 

i have an 89 yoda and i had to take my door panel off and reinstall from the inside.. good luck.. it sucks having big hands for this job.

on your 87 the outer cover pops of like you said and there are 2 phillips head screws you take out and it comes rite off. if you have bad luck some times the nut stuck in the door skin turns with the screw. you them have to take the inner panel off and hold it with vise grips.

it looks like you have the black sport mirrors from your picture. i have a couple drivers side ones i'll sell for $15 + shipping.
