Guys,

Just had my 92 in for A/C repair (new compressor, evaporator, dryer), and got it back today. The A/C is soooo cold, coldest of any cars I've ever driven or been in, however when moving the slider over to heat, the only thing that occurs is a SLIGHT reduction in air volume (that is, slightly less air coming out of vents). It is still directing refrigerated cold air through the vents.

When moving the slider, the typical sound of some hatch opening/closing/whatever is there and I know for a fact the heater was working very well when I took it in for work. So my question would be is there any quick fixes that come to mind or things to look for myself before I waste a day dealing with the dealer? I'd like to think it's something they simply neglected to connect or whatnot, but I really don't know where to start as far as the heater is concerned.

make sure that the water valve for the heater core on the firewall is still hooked up and moving when you move the lever, thats the only thing that i can think of

 

Where might I look for this valve?

 

The valve is in the engine bay between the firewall and the rear of the engine. It has 2 heater hoses going to it and a cable attached to it as well.

Also under the left hand side of the glove compartment is a cable that controls the diverter door. Make sure this is attached. It probably would have been disconnected to replace the evaporator.

 

Not to seem stupid , but are you pushing in the button to turn off the AC. You said you had the ac on and then slide the temp lever to heat only.

 

The heater would still put out hot air with the a/c switch on. (Using the a/c with defrost, the only way to clear the windows in damp climates, still gives you hot air...) My guess would be the heater valve cable is disconnected. It's possible that air is trapped in the heater core and hasn't "burped" yet as well.

 

So I understand:
You have A/C on, blowing out the vents, cold

You change the temp lever (to warm up the air coming out the vents), or change the mode to heat (expecting air to blow out by the feet)?

In either case I think they left a cable off under the dash.......Back to the dealer
