Doc I don’t care if my spelling is off. Yes it is my first build of a truck motor, I rebuilt my Honda XR200 a few years ago with no problems but my dad was there for the little stupid Q’s. At his point I have taken the carb apart 10 or more times and sprayed every part with carb cleaner. Everything is good as long as the jetting is right for this setup as it should be.?? I spent most of the day tracing wires and the fuel lines as I took the truck apart about 6 months ago and thought I had the right ones but it wasn’t so I was just running it off of a Gatorade bottle of gas in the front. I also had redone the vacuum lines and the distributor is not advancing now and that is my problem so now I got to think about that?? thanks

Neil,

If the engine timing is off - you may get it started but the engine will not rev.
Are you sure that the timing chain and the reference points for the crank and cams are exact ? Did you put the distributor in with the #1 cylinder TDC and the rotor pointing at your #1 spark plug. Are you pouring the fuel out of the bottle ? does the fuel pump not work - explain a little better and we will try to help. engines require 3 things to run - spark at the right time,
fuel to burn and compression - timing is critical to everything else.

Look for the basics first when troubleshooting !

ya, i got the fuel lines worked out so now im gettin fuel from the tank. the timing is set at 5 deg. but it is not advancing as it revs up and it goes way over to driver side and starts to backfire through the carb. the timing chain will not alow both the crank and cam to be exactly at tdc but when i asembled it with the shiny links it put the cam so the dot was rotated counter clockways onehalf of a toothfrom tdc?? semed kind of odd to me. i will try rotating it. thanks a lot Neil
