Question Guides Replace w/o Chain?

Is it feasable to replace guides without replacing timing chain? Guides/chain only has 60,000 and sounds like its going south. Also, is there a tech site that gives procedure to remove/replace chain & guides? Three yota manuals describe disassembling everything not just replacing. thanks in advance

if you are talking about the 4 cyl, jsut do it all, it really doenst cost extra to do it right the first time, and since the toyta is an interference engine, if that chain breaks your head will need new valves as they will probably get damaged, also the pistons may also get damaged... look towards www.engnbldr.com for the kit its like $70 shipped and thats for the good kit with the driver side upgraded metal guide... do a search for upgraded timing chain guides and you will see a thread by me... it covers all of this in detail... www.4crawler.com has a writeup on replacing hte chain

ya, if you're going to put the effort in to tear it all apart, it just doesn't make sense not to replace everything in there. What if you didn't replace the chain, and the day after you put it all back together, the chain snapped...

if you can get in far enough to replace the guides, you might as well do the chain too -- it'll only take a few minutes anyway. i haven't seen a timing set that didn't include the chain.
