Cool grill guard/light bar,front.

What do you guys like for the front of your 4Runner grill guard, light bar, center protector ?

I want to mount a set of Hella 500's on my 2003 4Runner (it's a limited,) I had my heart set on a JAOS bullbar... But, now I'm thinking that $1250 is a ton of money for something that sits on the front of my truck and just looks cool. I saw a review that said it didn't offer any protection.

While those repacement bumpers ARB, ect, look cool and are probably 100 times better than the OEM bumper... I'm not installing one.

I kind of like the Safari-Gard pictured in the LA post. If it's made.

I don't do serious off-road'ing, breaking the brush and what not. I'm just on a lot of dirt roads out in the boonies and want more light.

The roof rack mounting is not a option as I need to go in covered lots.

Do you want a winch as well like there is in the picture? If so your best bet is probably a TJM in the $450 range. Installation takes 3 strong guys or some very creative jacking techniques.

That looks like a good clean setup on that Safari Gard but it looks like they had to cut some holes in the stock bumper to fit it. I haven't heard of that product till now.

Safariguard has been making killer products for Landrovers for quite some time now. Looks like a nice custom install for the winch in the pic.

No on the winch...

I'm wondering if they really got a winch back there as there is only 8-10" behind that grill.

I just want something that looks good, I can mount some lights, and will maybe offer a bit of protection if I smack a deer.

I wasn't telling you to get the winch, I was just commenting that the install looked nice.

I have a Manik. I really like it. It looks great, is really tough (not ARB tough), but can withstand some bumps and bruises. It also looks really cool with the PIAA 520 fogs that I have on it. I would check it out. See what you think. Try here . Goodluck and let us know how you make out! :fireman:

I have a Chrome Westin bar on the front of my 2nd Gen. I like it and I have Hella 500's on it. Had it for over a year a now with no rust. Not postive but pretty sure they make one for a 3rd Gen. I paid around $200 for mine.. It's only a pushbar though.

Crummy pic but the first one I found

How about this Smittybilt?

I'm only using the top holes, but there are two undereneath also.

Get the stainless one unless you don't live in the salt/rust belt like I do...

I just put my Waag one piece brush guard on last night. I paid $440 out the door, which included truck shipping out to me and the adapter for the sport edition skid plate. The guard is very well made and i'm a happy camper with it.

Did you notice the body color "PIAA" paint work? Looks black in the pic, but it's really dark blue. BTW the fogs rule, everything else is an "also ran".

More money than brains...

Yes, before I knew any better, I bought the front and rear tail guards from Performance Products. I'm sure I could have gotten them cheaper, but I just didn't shop around when I was young and foolish. I spent too much, PP's going rate, no specials, no coupons. Oh well, lesson learned.

Anyway, chrome is a good move as the ones I got had the textured finish that wasn't all that durable. Rock dings and scratches made it rust, so I had to remove it, sand/strip it and repaint with bedliner spray. If I had it to do over, I'd have gotten chrome or stainless.

Couple of things I like about it. Nice beefy tubes around headlights, headlight guards, and very sturdy (Have to drill two holes in the bumper, though) I have the matching nerf bars too. I like the look, and it works well for us currently. As it becomes more a trail rig, that stuff will be coming off being replaced with STOUT stuff!

Here's a couple more pics:

Sorry, no tail guards (off until the replacement mandrel comes for the rivet-nut tool!)

that looks good ! THX

Still leaning toward the Safari-Gard though... I figure three Hella 500's could give someone a sun-tan and if I run into someone (body, not auto), it may protect my bumper.
