Question Goofy question regarding 1997 4Runner....

Does anyone know where or how the cargo light door position is activated? i have just purchased a 1997 4Runner and the Cargo area light will not go on when I open the lift gate. Is there a button, like the front doors? Even when the lift gate is open and one of the doors is open the light won't go on in the DOOR position, but it will go on in the ON position. Thanks for any insight.

if i recall correctly, the "door" light is sensed through the latch. What some of us have done to make that malfunctioning light work is to work the latch manually and/or lube it up a bit so it moves better.

That's what I did for mine, anyway.

There are other possible problems, of course, but that seems to be the common one.

Thanks for the reply, I will give it a shot. I wasn't sure where the stupid switch was.....over engineered into the latch/handle....Thanks again, I appreciate it.
