gas mileage suggestions

I'm only getting 10 miles per gallon in my 95 4WD V6 4Runner with 31" properly inflated tires. Obviously, some things need to be changed. I thought of changing my rotor, cap, sparkplug wires, sparkplugs, and air filter. I might also drop a tire size. I want to hit every angle to squeeze out the max mileage. Would changing the fuel filter help?

Any other suggestions on how to improve my Hummer-like performance?

And yes, I accelerate slowly and don't speed (too much).

What tires did you came stock with your truck? Look on the inside of the driver's door. If it was the 31s then dropping a tire size isn't going to do much good.

Do all the maintenance stuff. Don't forget the fuel filter and the O2 sensor. The O2 sensor should make a noticeable difference. Also run some good injector cleaner through it. Try BG44K or the Redline. I've never used the Redline but I've heard it works great. Search on injector cleaner and you'll find a thread of mine that has some good info in it.

Make sure you use the Toyota plugs and wires. They cost the same as the stuff from the auto parts store but are of a much better quality.

I'm running 31s with gearing for 225s and get about 16 mpg in the city. Before I was averaging about 12 mpg.

If you have around 80000 miles get your o2 sensor changed under warranty at the dealer. Its in your manual.

Repeated short trips of less than 5 miles will kill your gas mileage.

You can:

Change plugs
Replace cap and rotor
Replace pcv valve (pia)
Clean throttle body and intake
Change transmission fluids and Differential
Adjust timing
Run some Techron in your gas, a bottle to 10 gallons
Run a maintenance dose of gas additives every other fillup, 1.5 oz. to 10 gallons
Change you coolant 50/50 with DISTILLED WATER

Thats a start.
