Gas cap seal/rubber O ring ?

Doing preventative maintenance...Dealer wants $26. for a gas cap...ouch !
I've never had a problem with aftermarket caps but my question is if anyone has ever had grief with after market replacement cap seals / rubber O rings on the original factory cap ?
thx

Did your gas cap fail to pass emissions now you need another.

Just feel you should change it because it is worn out.

I carry a spare in all my vehicles because every now and then I drop one and of course it rolls dead center under the vehicle.

I have had after market gas caps without any issues

Never had a problem. Just make sure you get a Viton o-ring, not just a rubber o-ring that "fits". Most rubbers will get eaten up by gasoline and the additives. Viton will not.

x2 on carrying a spare...except I pick mine up when I drop it. Maybe put a new one on and throw your old one in the glove box.

I keep an eye open around gas stations now, too. Although our caps are usually tethered, the tethers can pull out or snap and invariably people forget to take the cap off the roof or gas pump and put it back on the car. That's how I came about my spares. Nice Toyota logo gas caps FTW.

I have an aftermarket cap and have never had problems. I had to change mine because the ratchet mechanism in the original cap broke and you couldn't tighten the cap. Picked one up at Pep Boys about 5 years ago. It's working fine.

i wouldnt worry too much about finding a viton one, there isnt enough ethanol in gasoling to erode the cap that quickly and unless your running a WVO setup on a D then i wouldnt worry about it. i too have had nothing but good expirences with aftermarket gas caps
