its on the passenger side frame rail.
thats assume you have a 93runner with a 3vze engine.
posting your engine specswill help out
here is a quote from HALMAN
"HALMAN
On my 2nd gen. '93' Toyota, the damn filter is along the frame on the passneger side. A REAL PITA!!! I had to drop the tranny support bracket to get it out and install it, and there is NOT much room for ratcheting, had to wrench it an 1/8 of an inch at a time!
Definately made a diff when all was installed, gained about 2 mpg back.
Damn Toyota egineers. "

You can check out this article on 4x4wire: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/mainte...6/fuel_filter/
I just used an open end box wrench and turned it little by little. I assume you know that you can flip the wrench about it's long axis and you can get more rotation. Sorry if you knew that already, I have to explore all possibilities. My only other advice is to see if you can get the wrench in there some other way.
Good luck and be careful,
Steve
Oh yeah, I don't know about the play, mine was pretty tight.
