Fuel Damper problem?

My brother in law has an '85 truck, 22-R, with EFI. He has a strong fuel smell and a bit of a leak, he thinks it may be the fuel damper? Personally I'm not exactly sure what that is, he just describes it as "kind of a round 2 inch filter looking thing" but I wanted to see if anyone has changed one before and ask what all is involved.

Mine went out. It is expensive but easy to replace.

Thanks Donnie. I actually found a good PBB thread on two things to check in relation to the damper. I guess there's a set screw underneath the cap that can back out, and a small diaphragm in there that you can possible replace too. I guess we'll try those before replacing the whole thing.

Your welcome- I was on the road and my options were limited when I fixed mine. We were in the smokey mountains and the dealer was an hour drive. Best I recall, the part was about $70. Let me know how it turns out.
