What are you guys getting? Last time I checked I was getting an average of almost 20. Also, what is the size of the tank on the '98s? Thanks!

 

3rd gens have 18.5 gallon tanks. I'm getting roughly 18.9mpg on average. Do you do a lot of highway driving to get that good of mileage?

 

Not sure what to make of my fuel consumption. In NJ I was getting 15-16mpg. I towed a trailer from NJ to Colorado and my worst was about 10mpg. Now driving here I get 20-21mpg and I use the cheaper 85 octane gas, but I have heard bad things about it so I may stop.

on the highway going about 80 i get about 270 miles for 15 gallons..which breaks down to about 18 per gallon..i think if i went 70 it would probably be right around 20...but i can't drive the speed limit, it's just not my bag!!!!!

 

I get about 18-19 mpg in the city. The most I've gotten ever on the highway is around 24.6 mpg. On average highway driving for me is about 21-23 mpg.

 

How bout the same question only for 2nd Gen's. I usually get about 240 miles to a tank city driving. Not sure what my MPG is because we do everything in liters here and that's just too much math for me Just curious what other people are getting. I am filling up today for the first time with the Borla on. I'll let you guys know what that does for the mileage. I don't think it will be very accurate though because I still can't seem to get my foot off the gas...haha

 

Beavah, the only thing that I can think of would be the air pressure. Maybe, since you are so high above sea level, that has something to do with it, compared to what you got before. That is my only guess.

My '92 gets around 24 mpg. I do ALOT of highway driving, and a little putzing around town driving. I think if I didn't do that, I would get 26, 27! Who knows though! I have to go to work. :fireman:

 

I guess because of my driving style..i was going about 270 miles till the fuel light went on from having a fulll tank . Since I put in the amsoil and the dynomax, I can go about 305 miles before my fuel light comes on.

 

I was getting 19 and 20 consistantly with 10w 30 dino oil, somewhat clogged K+N filter and 3 year old cap, rotor and sparkplugs. I sprang for 5w 30 Full synth oil, cleaned the K+N, new cap, rotor, and Denso plugs and jumped back up to 25!! Not to shabby for a motor with nearly 200,000 miles in my book. FYI its a 22R (non EFI) 4 cylander and I beat the snot out of it regularly.

 

jx94148, that's awesome. Gives the rest of us something to look forward to. Hopefully all of our 4Runners will be able to go 200,000 miles and be as good as the day we bought them.

384 km using approx. 60 L (correct if I'm wrong) equals:

6.40 km/L
15.14 U.S. MPG
18.08 Imperial MPG

Hey when Toyota posts estimated mpg on their website & brochures, do they use U.S. or Imperial MPG?

I assume you guys have been using U.S. MPG, so I have to correct my own post too, I was looking at imperial. Looks like I get approx. 15-16 in the city and 18-20 on the highway.

 

I think i get whatever they put on the paper that you see in the window of the new vehicles, i think it was 17-19 which pretty much sucks, but I love my 4runner so much that it doesn't bother me.

I keep a very close watch on my mileage. The best I've gotten on the highway from Denver to Sydney, Nebraska was 25.2! My average speed was 71 MPH.
Usually I average around 22.5 MPG.
Here's what I have:
Supercharger - as soon as I installed this, I lost .5 average MPG.
305cc injectors from Toyota Supra - again, lost .2 MPG
TRD exhaust - no change
Edelbrock headers - gained 1.2 MPG
Electric fan - gained .4 to .6 MPG
Fuel Atomizer (cool gadget, e-mail me about it) - gained 4-6 MPG!

Even with all these fuel saving devices, I've still been able to whoop several 5.0 Mustangs, several newer Mustangs, and even a 1995 Vette, once. (Yes, he was really racing)

 

Damn, some of you guys are kicking my 4 bangers arse :confused: I always record my mileage and gas fillups..ever since I've been driving. Had my Datsun almost 20 years and filled up about 6 note books. I get consistantly 21 MPG with 80% highway driving. I have a semi heavy foot, but the V6'ers are getting more MPG than my 2.7:wtf: ??? Not sure if the 2.7 revs higher being a 4 banger...I do like the fact I have a timing chain and spark plug changes are a snap...but some of you 6ers are smokin' me on MPG. I'll start playing with my ECT button and see if that helps.

Are you running the stock boost from the s/c? Just wondering the justification of bigger injectors...? And... wow... you really do keep track of that mileage..:confused:

 

Damn, the best milage I get is around 18 mpg all highway and that is with a recent tuneup oil change and clean air filter.

BTOWN, how on earth do you get 24 mpg when we have basically the same vehicle. Did you get the milage increase from your exhaust?

What can I do to increase mine to over 20 mpg?

 

That's nothing compared to some trucks. I once looked at the sticker on a new Avalanche... 9mpg city, 12 hwy. I mean damn!!!
