front wheel bearing noise

I have a noise that is very similar to a front wheel bearing going bad. When the steering wheel is turned a little to the left the noise goes away. When I jack up the truckand check for free play, no play at all can be felt and when I spin the tire no noise can be heard. Will the bearing growl without the feeling of free play?

If it is just beginning to go, then yes.
I am experiencing something similar now so we'll see what happens.
Darn pot holes up here could swallow the front wheel....I am sure that is what did in my bearing!
