Front cross member?

Is there supposed to be a front cross member on these frames?
In some of the 4runner diagrams I have seen there is a cross member bolted on behind the bumper. Mine did not have this.

During my front end collision with the rear of a Hyundai, the front end of my 4runner collapsed a lot more than I thought it would have. The front skidplate mount sheared off and bent up the budbuilt skidplate pretty good. Anyone want it? its 1/4" aluminum.

I welded on a front cross member, It will also be a better mount for the skidplate.

I would not really call it a crossmember more like a piece of thin sheet metal .

That is bolted in and most often ends up getting removed then never put back on.

One must remember these front ends are made to absorb the shock of being hit.

I also would not call that metal shield from the factory a skid plate it is there to catch tools and hardware one drops till I had enough and left it off for good.

Well I guess I am having good luck these days.
Just fixed the 4runner, been driving it for a week. I was rear ended today and pushed into the car in front of me.

There is no damage on the rear, the trailer hitch took the impact, the front dented the bumper, and I know the front cross member I welded in front helped out tremendously. Luckily the airbags didn't go off this time.
