I bought the TJM-15 from Sonoran Steel (see my avatar) and it weighed around 120 lbs. The stock bumper I had on my 2000 4runner LTD was mostly plastic and weighted 1/2 that. THis is my 2nd TJM. I have one on my 95 4runner as well. I think it makes my 4runner look mean instead of a "grocery getter." TJM is easy to bolt on with no grinding. Shrockworks requires some grinding. I almost bought one but the price with shipping was almost $500 more than my TJM. I had other mods I wanted to do. I used the $500 saved and bought Bud built skid plate and belly plate. I also had a receiver welded inside my TJM so I could use my warn 9.5 ti which is in a cradle both back and front. You need more than stock suspension to hold this up. I went with the SS 1.2 suspension system and it holds everything up nice and offers a nice ride. goodluck.

Sure this stuff is from my '05 and so is going to be different from a earlier Tacoma but I know when I was nailed in my '97 Tacoma an aftermarket bumper would have saved some other damage over the factory stuff.

I have hit my ARB on logs, rocks, stumps and the occasional grocery cart. Most of that would have ended up with me paying a $500 deductible to fix the stock stuff.
I agree, but I think you missed my point... which was this: The airbag will still go off with an aftermarket bumper, in fact it may go off sooner than it should or in a situation where it should not have gone off.

Seems like I'm probably too late, but thought I'd throw in my vote for the ARB. Airbag compatible, stronger than the TJM, and better looking I think.
Having said that, the TJM is still a good choice anyway.

Shrockworks is superior in strength and function compared to ARB or TJM. It's in a league of it's own and worth every extra dollar. Other than looks, It should never be compared to any other production made bumper.

The Shrockworks bumper is great looking since they pretty much copied the ARB and TJM, but it is definately comparable in function. I asked Shrockworks multiple times on several forums about the airbag compatability of their bumper and they never once even bothered to reply or make any comment at all regarding the engineering done in this regard. Having seen the chassis mounting brackets that they have, the Shrockworks is indeed a strong bumper but it will without doubt cause the airbags to deploy during slower speed collisions. This is probably not a big concern for alot of people (since accidents always happen to someone else) but for me it was. I want my SRS system to function when I need it and not sooner. I chose the ARB since it was cheaper AND is better engineered for safety.
