I’m looking at a 1999 Tacoma but it’s pretty far away so I asked the dealer to send pics of the frame. This is what he sent. The part I circled makes it seem like someone coated over the top of some rust at some point, but the rest looks pretty decent for the year.
My old 1992 Toyota pickup finally has too much frame rust to continue, so I’m looking to replace but am very wary of getting into more frame rust issues.
Does this look like the frame of a Tacoma that you would purchase?
There are a couple of weird folds/index marks on the frame I assume for assembly in that location circled. Hard to tell with all the coatings on it, looks like someone put the plug kit in it and oiled it well, Typically dealer did this to prevent the rust, could have been replaced even, and the dealer would be able to provide you with any warranty work done, looks good from those pics, only a hammer will be able to tell for sure, to bad its not 4x4.

I ran the Carfax for this vehicle and found that it had been coated at a Toyota dealership in 2011. It makes me feel a little better that it wasn’t just the owner covering up rust.
Yeah it would be great if it was 4x4, but my price range is too low to snag a decent Toyota 4x4, so this will have to do!
