Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but I am about to take the plunge with buying new wheels and was wondering if having the 231mm calipers will change anything?

I originally posted this thread not knowing the difference between the 199mm and the 231mm caliper of the Tunda. I have the 231mm caliper. What wheels will fit with this larger caliper?

I've posted this on TTORA as well but no one seems to wanna answer me.

Surely to God someone has put the 231mm's on their rig?

Thanks!

Let me get this straight, are you using the 16" TRD SE edition gunmetal rims, or the 17" stock FJ Alloys?

I suspect the 231's will fit with 17" rims no problem, especially if you use spacers. As for the 16" rims, well, my guess is the problems would be similar to using Landcruiser 16x8's or stock 4Runner Limited 16" 5-spokes.

Awesome looking FJ, and yes those wheels really do make a difference on your rig! Good to be back home!
He he he, thanks, I diggeth the FJ.

Naw, the step stool was for the awning when I unzipped it.
I found out though that I do not need it.
Did not use one when I hit Mt. Rainier in August on my camping vacation.

I'm not running anything yet...I've got my 15" stocks on right now. I'm asking this question because I'm going to mount the Tundra Calipers, but I'll need a 16" wheel, thus I'm curious as to what 16" wheel will fit these calipers.

I think you'll need to go with the 17" alloys if you really want to be sure that the 231mm calipers will fit. Otherwise, you can take a chance with the 16" rims, but no guarantees.

In either case, I would also recommend running wheel spacers to ensure the rims dont stick you tires into the wheelwells farther. The 17" FJ alloys have 4.84" of backspace (I assume the 16" TRD SE wheels are similar), about a half-inch larger than stock 3rd gen 4Runner rims. For tires that are 255's or 265's, the spacers are more aesthetic than a requirement since they will <technically> fit, but if you ever want to run 285's you'll need spacers no doubt about it.

here is my thread about putting 17" FJ alloys on my 3rd gen 4Runner- Fitting 17" FJ Alloys on a 3rd gen. I'm running custom 3/4" spacers.

I'm actually wanting the Procomp wheels like what Corey has on his FJ....but in 16".

Well, the point is that I don't think the 231mm calipers will fit in a 16" rim. Sorry. You can of course try and see what happens, but be ready to buy the 199mm calipers (or do some serious grinding) if it doesn't work.

They are by far the best wheels I have over owned in my life.
And they are very durable with the coating they use.

Not once last winter did I wash them, and come spring time they cleaned right up with rig soap and water.

If that was the case then no Tundras would be running 16s. I KNOW that the 16" Procomp 8069s work with 231s. I'm just wanting to know if these (7089s) work as well.

Do they balance well? It seems like there is a bit of "lip" that wouldn't be able to be balanced.

I never have weights on the outside, looks very unattractive on wheels.
All my wheels get balanced from behind with tape weights.

They balanced very well.

Nice...I really want to use them. I still can't find anyone with a Tundra that has them in 16". One guy had them in 18", but that's a little large for my Tacoma.

Do you know the comparison of the FJ caliper with the large S13WL caliper of the Tundra?

From what I understand, the 231mm calipers don't fit in >most< 16" wheels because the rims have a bit of a radius as they go from the mounting surface to the rim. If the rims have a large flat mounting surface with less radiused edges, or a small backspacing (maybe less than 4"), they will most likely fit.

But as I said, it's never a guarantee.

Yeah...I've found a small list of wheels that fit the Tundras with the 231mm calipers, so they'd fit the Tacomas as well. BUT the one wheel that I want, the 7089 Procomp Alloy I've only found fitting the Tundra in 18". I've read nothing of a Tundra with the 7089s in 16" as of yet.

The list is small because finding a 16" rim that fits is pretty rare. The safest guess is that if it ain't on the list, it won't fit. Sorry.

Yep...here's what I found:

Ivan Stewart wheels fit, MT Classic, MT Classic II, Procomp 8069 and 8023 in 16x8 , 7089 17", FJ 5-spoke (with spacers), Weld Racing Renegade
