Fitting wide wheels on the back of a pickup?

Is there a narrower 4x4 axle I could use on the back of my pickup to fit real wide tires on? Or can you fit wide tires just by having less offset or whatever that is for your rims?

There's one clearance point you have to be careful of...
That's the leaf spring and frame line.
You can get a wide rim that sticks out, just make sure the wheel won't rub the bed sides.
So are you "hotrodding" the 2wd?
