This is a pretty good thread. The best turbo thread made towards progress for the manifold for the 3.4L engine. Unfortunate how it died down near the end like the other ones that are floating around from 2002 and 2003. I really wanted to see this through. Although from a few accounts from tacoma owners and some 3rd gens, atleast I know a single turbo is feasible on the 3.4L. I think the few owners that want the turbo should just go with a custom setup, I don't think theres enough interest to warrant the group buy. I do appreciate NODE for his feedback on his setup and experimentation. If the thread doesn't die, maybe we'll hear from him around spring break time.

I'm interested. Count me in the group that posted earlier just looking for mild performance improvement without fuel or trans mods.

What, if any, impact does the turbo have on the cat and 02 sensors? Also, is there any change to emissions?

I've never owned a vehicle with a turbo, does this CT-26 use engine oil or is it an integral oil system? If it uses engine oil, I assume oil change frequency would be increased, correct?

Node - can we see any pics of your 3.4 truck installation yet?

He hasnt done anything yet becuase he doesnt have access to a truck...sooooo if someone in the Carolina area would contact him...maybe you can be a test bed or something ...hint hint nudge nudge....

Also any power upgrade will afect your tranny...cant really get away from that

Yes its engine oil like all turbos and if you use the right oil and the right shut down procedure then you dont need to change it as often as people say

Thanks Weasy

Ok, well when I read post #129 and Node said "3.4 rig" I guess I assumed he had a truck that it was installed in. Maybe on a test stand?

Anyway, Trans mods: they were only mentioned here on the thread in relation to max output T/C, correct? The TRD S/C installation doesn't need any trans mods, right? I understand if you're looking for 300(+) HP that some sort of mod would be needed, but surely the stock trans can handle 225(+-) RWHP, no? As I stated in the previous post, I'm looking for mild highway towing and hill gains, not to snap axles or pull stumps. Just trying to clarify what exactly you mean for mods. [edit- Weasy - just checked your s2s site - cool Taco project - but not at all what I'm aiming for performance wise]

Wish I were a little closer to the Carolinas...

No it wasnt installed to anything...he thought he had a test rig but that ended up going south as well as the 3vz-e 3.0L one.

Transmission:
At 7psi on the stock s/c your tranny will feel the effects of even that added pressure 240whp can be attained even with the stock tranny.
Its when you go full throttle in first to second which really kills the tranny.
If you dont race around in your truck then you should be fine as shifting is the biggest issue.

Stock output is 160-170whp...maybe N/A route is something you should go? I am going to release a N/A power cam soon for the 5vz along with valve springs. Maybe that would be someting you would be interested in?

I have a MR2 that im putting the 5vz in which will be n/a for this year and going FI in the off season

I will test my cams out in that engine so you guys can see what the N/A stock with cams is like (no porting or valve work done in this engine)

Sure I'd consider a cam as an alternative. Maybe you could start another thread with pertinent info so we don't clutter up this one.
