engine trouble(is it possible on a toyota?)

Today, I was driving down the highway for several miles, then exitted. I stopped at a light, and when it turned green i let of the brake and my engine died. It didn't seem to be idling rough or anything, but i did have my music loud. I was very disappointed. I just put it in neutral and started it back up. This same thing happend to me a long time ago, after getting off a high way. Any one know what the problem could be?

Automatic or manual.....

If its an automatic it could be the EGR valve...

Mike

Ps. It happened to my wife's Toy 95 Celica

Another thing to check for with a dying engine at idle is any vacuum leaks. Chaeck all the small hoses for any tears, dry-rot, etc. You'd be surprised how small a leak can kill your engine.

Hm... Id have to seek clarification on this but I only recall seeing 3.4's with EGR's on 2wd tacomas. I was confused when I saw it. It looked odd for sure. I might be able to find out.

Anyhow, his 4 runner does not have an EGR. (but you could always prove me wrong)

These problems (i.e. Happened last year, and then the other day) are impossible to diagnose. You have to get lucky and either come across something that does not look right or see a piece of data ( scan tool ) out of range. The inability to verify the customers complaint is the #1 reason for customer dissatisfaction IMO. But what can you do? We just take the verbal beatings and ask for more please.

I wouldnt be too concerned about the problem. But then again I understand the worry about it breaking down if the wife was driving it. (Dont know if he married, ill assume so) Best you can do is look it over well and dbl check things.
