Engine trouble

98 4runner limited w/ the V6 engine. When I let off the throttle to slow down or stop the engine dies. This just started happening today.
Anyone have an idea of what could be causing this? The car otherwise runs great with no problems. I have a chiltons manual for the car. Thanks in advance for any help.

Need to check for computer codes. As suggested, may be the TPS. If no codes, then its a mechanical problem....e.g. the ERG can stick from carbon buildup and kill the idle.

No EGR on these engines.

You might have a bad TPS, stuck IAC or a host of other problems.
Start with the basics and change your plugs, clean the throttle body and IAC, then test the TPS.

you may need a new computer period. i use to have a 94 4runner and i was going to take my driving test in it and i let off the throttle and it just died, and we had to tow it back to the shop and find out we now had to spend 1k. so i just orderd a new computer and sent it to jet to get a turbo chip, MUCH better. maybe it is different for the 3rd gens.
