Hey guys, am just wondering, i have a 92 2.4 litre turbo diesel, different to what you guys run i know, but neverthe less and it runs fine, no probs so far.
The only thing i notice is that when cold and i drive for a few minutes then get onto a freeway the temp guage is fine untill i put my foot down on the freeway to get up to 100kmh. then it starts to rise slightly over the middle, and a bit more, but never goes more than 3 quarter mark:mad: , then drops right back down to below middle where it usually stays. this is all within a few seconds.
It has only done this a few times, I am thinking of replacing the thermostat and radiator cap, and flushing the system myself. A friend of mine said i should have the radiator flushed as it could be blocked. Is it likely to be the water pump ?!!
Any info would be great. also part numbers for the thermostat etc, and is it an easy job ? should i have it done properly and spen $$$$
cheers

Sometimes a failing head gasket presents in the same mannor. You may want to get it checked and have an oil sample tested to see if there is coolant in it.

Are you losing coolant out of your overflow right before the temp goes back down? I had a similar problem with a Mustang that I owned. When I got up to highway speed, the temp would shoot up, It would momentarily overheat, blow a bunch of coolant out of the overflow, and then the temp would come back down a little.
Surprise! It was a head gasket. Just as Gadget indicated above.
