Long before I realized there was a wealth of information online I went and did something stupid. When I was wiring in my new White Gauge Faces on the instrument cluster I figured I would cut the wires to the "old" dimmer switch since the kit came with its own dimmer. There were three wires going into the original dimmer, but only 2 on the new dimmer. I left the third wire taped shut - but when everything was together I noticed all the lights on the center console didn't work (heater/shifter/ashtray) so I spliced the "extra" wire into the power wire. Nothing. So what is the problem - do I need a resistor? Did I ruin my 4Runner's center lights? Please help - the stereo guy who put in my head unit shook his head and laughed.
