ECT switch stopped working

Hi everyone.

Coming back from a roadtrip, I noticed the ECT switch in my 99 4Runner stopped working. No light, no more response. Is there a fuse to check, or am I about to embark on an epic hunt for the electrical gremlin?

Cheers,

- olaf

its prolly just the switch itself... happened 3 times in my 93, replace the switch, and voila. after a few years of dirt/dust/coffee/soda etc, it just gets gummed up, and cant make a connection anymore. I have had some success using electrical cleaner to get them working again, but its usually only a temporary fix.

Thanks.

Thanks guys. Did some playing with the throttle today, and it might just be the little bulb after all, since the shift points still seem to be affected (contrary to what I had thought earlier). Will install new bulb and report back.

It's not hard to test the switch. It's a simple off/on switch. In NORMAL there won't be any continuity across the terminals and in POWER there will be.

The ECT is Electronic Control Trans, right? My 4runner has it and I try it and don't notice any difference with it on or off.

When am I supposed to use it, what benefits from controling the trans electronically?
