So do I need to get a new e-locker computer for mine and leave my wife's in place? Or can I just swap computers with her and her ABS will work? Does it actually disable the ABS or just make the light come on? Myself I wouldn't mind not having ABS. This is getting a little more confusing than I thought it would be.........

turboboost- It's actually surprisingly clean, go figure!

Others will have to weigh in on the computer swap (I don't know the answer on that one), but if it ends up that you can't swap computers then use the inchworm wiring kit HERE. I guarantee you won't be getting a new computer for less than $75.

No offense but for $75 that kit kinda seems like a rip off. I pretty much have all those items lying around my garage. I'm sure I could just hook up wires to the locker and make it work but i'd like to try the factory option first. If nothing else for the 5mph saftey.

My initial thought is that since both your 4Runners are '98, you could just swap the 4wd computers. I'm not sure on that, but maybe have a gander at them and see what you think. Post up some pics and part numbers if you're unsure. I'd bet you could just swap them between the two vehicles without a worry.

So if you're wired for e-locker, then you're wired for e-locker (or partially wired in some cases), and if you didn't actually *get* the e-locker, you got a different 4wd computer that just ignores some of the connected wiring. Correct? So turboboost should have pretty good chances with switching his two around as they're both '98s.

And like Elton said, make sure the ring and pinions are the same ratio.
This.

you'll have to swap the whole thing from..."flange to flange", I guess that's what it'd be called on the rear.

I already figured on switching the whole rear axle. Thus why I checked the build codes. As far as computer for computer, since they are the same year and exact same build code, I am hoping so. I'll look at the wiring when I get a chance and try to figure it out. Just out of curiosity, if you are fully wired should there just be an empty plug hanging by the diff? How many people have been so lucky anyway?

I asked a similar question a few posts back...

So from this, I gather the answer to your question is no. If you're pre-wired for locker, but don't have the locker, then you have a different 4wd computer and the harness is still connected to it. Thus, you should be able to just swap computers between your two 4Runners.

I think I'm getting this...please correct me if I'm not.

And FWIW, my '02 has a completely different 4wd computer and and a completely different connector/harness.
