Question e-locker

I have 1996 4Runner (auto, 4x4, 3.4L). It did not come with e-locker.
Can anyone tell me what would be involved to install one? Do I have to get another rear end or this is just like an add on part? How much would it cost?
Thanks.

Here is a link to a guy who put one in his 1st gen 4runner- Write up

Yours would be a little easier, if your truck happened to be prewired from factory (some were)

You would still have to do the axle housing modifications, so the locker actuator would fit your diff.

I think costwise it is just slightly cheaper than getting an ARB locker put in.

Good luck

I bought a donor rig, swapped the front and rear diffs (housings and all), wired up the e-locker, then sold the donor rig for $300 more than I bought it for. Can't beat that!

Personally, it would have been much easier to do just the rear. However, the donor rig had 4.30's and I had 4.10's, therefore I had to swap all 4. Major pain, but worth it in the end.
